MIDDLETOWN PRESS: Islanders to Hartford a pipedream

Recommended Posts

THE MIDDLETOWN PRESS - SPORTS

HEADLINE: Wooing Islanders to Hartford seems like a pipe dream

"So Hartford wants the New York Islanders. The first thing that sprung to mind when the news broke was a quote from Uncle Junior in an old “Sopranos” episode. “Well, I want to (date) Angie Dickinson. Let’s see who gets lucky first.”

Nothing is official yet, but it sounds like the Islanders will soon be booted from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center because the team isn’t doing much financially for the building. So it’s hardly surprising that Gov. Dan Malloy, thirsty to revive Hartford’s NHL legacy for some time, offered up the XL Center as an “interim” solution and, maybe, their new permanent home.

It’s political grandstanding, but fairly harmless. There’s nothing to lose by dangling the keys to the building. Plus, it’s good publicity for Malloy that gets folks reminiscing about the past and dreaming of the **ture, even if it’s unrealistic.

The NHL returning to Hartford any time soon seems little more than a pipedream. But that doesn’t mean we wouldn’t absolutely love to see the city get lucky with a New York starlet."

Well folks, there you have it, that is what local journalists think of the letter, they're not falling for it like a hand**l of scheming trolls, and a big nod of congratulations to many of the regulars on this forum who have changes over the past few years and now show spine and don't fall for the rumors and pipe dreams anymore, they're joining Biggie1083's camp of reality, Biggie1083 dismissed the goofy letter on Friday evening.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, eh Wolfie?

You're so desperate to dispel this that you're using an opinion from the Middletown Press and using it as Gospel.

True, I should instead take my opinions from you, since you have a 100% consistent track record.

.... only problem is, is that your track record is consistently wrong.:D

You'll throw any old lie or rumor against the wall and hopes it sticks, you will give it 12 months and then you come back on here and recycle the same rumors, this is Country 92.5 FM all over again.

It's my opinion that the time to act in regards to a possible NHL return is now, not "down the road".

It's also my opinion that the XL renovations need to happen ASAP, even with the money crunch the state is facing. The powers that be have put them off long enough, and without them, it's quite possible if not likely that the XL will close within the next decade or so, because the state will continue to lose money on the facility.

I think your biggest fault (besides being a WolfPuke fan) is that you take everyone's opinions and consider them Gospel. Once you stop doing that, and recognizing the difference between fact and opinion, you'll have a chance.

Oh, don't worry, I never con**se fact and opinion when reading your garbage on here for the past 6 years. From the looks of the other forum members and the stances they have taken recently, p4277, whalerdude11086, biggie1083, monizzle, will, topcoat, chad.... they don't get con**sed with your garbage either. You amuse us, you certainly don't inform us. If just anything you said was ever factual, there would be a half-dozen NHL teams located throughout central Connecticut right now.

For those of you keeping track at home, you might be wondering how the Coyotes will be able to move to Quebec and also move to Hartford at the same time, while the Islanders are also in process of moving to Hartford... but it's all possible in Mark's little brain.....

Mark has now promised or "guaranteed" to us the following: (and yes, we have the screenshots/images to prove all of this)

- Coyotes moving to Quebec, "guaranteed"

- Coyotes moving to Hartford, happening "soon"

- Whale gift store only having merchandise sale, not a going out of business sale

- Wolf Pack moving to Bridgeport

- Wolf Pack brand would "never" come back to the city of Hartford, after WSE failure

- "odds are excellent" that the Wolf Pack brand name will "NEVER" return

- Wolf Pack moving to upstate NY

- Wang might float Baldwin money

- Islanders would "never" leave Long Island, Islanders would never play in Brooklyn

- Islanders moving to Brooklyn has a "zero chance of happening"

- Islanders will be getting a "new building on Long Island"

- Baldwin would get his own AHL team after the 2013 season, giving up control of Whale

- Baldwin is working "behind the scenes" to get Coyotes to Hartford

- the Twins baseball team won't end relationship with Connecticut minor league baseball

- as of March 2016, Vegas "will not be getting an expansion team anytime soon"

If they don't know the difference between fact and opinion, that's their problem.

And no Wolfie, you have no idea what is fact and what is opinion. You've proven that over and over and over again.

Also, on June 9th, 2016, Will5059 made the claim that you (Markie) was the person who probably called into 92.5 FM saying the Islanders were going to move here in the year 2015.

Two hours after Will5059 said that, PlainvilleWhale said the following: "We keep using the word "sources" like there are actual people telling him [Markie] this information and not just his own garbage. How has no one realized that yet?"

There are people on here claiming that your sources don't exist, not only are they saying that all of the stuff you spout off is pure garbage, they are going to the base of your reasoning and sanity, they are saying that your "sources" simply don't exist.

This is his opinion. The fact is I did not make that phone call.

This is also opinion. It is their opinion that my sources do not exist. It is fact my sources do in fact exist.

Again, you really need to sit down and figure out the difference between fact and opinion. Once you do, you'll be better off. In fact...we all will.

For the record, I do not think you were the 92.5 FM Caller. The caller that morning had a more upbeat jovial sounding voice, and every time I have seen you in the arena over the years, whether you walking through the concourse or hanging around the table behind section 107 you were always more laid back and serious looking, you also never struck me a country-music listening person.

Also, important to note that the Markie from the 2012-2013 time span had a different outlook than the one we see before us today. Back then, Markie would actually question things, Markie was one of the first people on this forum to request an apology from the Baldwin's after the WhaleFlop East Hartford numbers were announced, Markie was actually the only person at that time asking Jeff Jacobs for the Baldwin's to provide an explanation and using the word "lied" in reference to the ticket numbers and calling it a "PR Nightmare", Markie noted how the Baldwin's rang up a lot of debt in a hurry, Markie was upset when comments were made about AEG's GM...... The Markie back then employed reasoning skills, sometime around early 2014 is when Markie went off the deep end with his wild predictions....

"For the record, I do not think you were the 92.5 FM Caller"

Since I have (a) denied it every time someone thinks I was the caller and (b) didn't even know about the call myself until Evo mentioned it here, it would have been pretty hard to make the call. So you're correct. You're also correct that I'm not a big country music guy.

"and every time I have seen you in the arena over the years, whether you walking through the concourse or hanging around the table behind section 107"

The only time I was "hanging around the table behind section 107" was when (a) the HWBC had their table there and (b) during the CT Whale days. I thought you had boycotted the CT Whale? Don't you remember the WolfPack Resistence Movement???

Looks like I've caught Wolfie in yet another lie.

Re: Phily vs Hartford

by MarkH2919 » Wed Jan 11, 2012 5:47 pm

It would have been much, much worse if nobody asked about it. There was no chance there was 21,673 people at Rentschler that night, at least not during the roughly 3 1/2 hours or so I was there. Now...did they sell 21,673 tickets for the game? I think that's absolutely possible. And unless someone gets a look at the balance ssheet from the WhaleBowl, we'll never know whether that number is true or not.

Re: Whale Bowl beats Steel Town Showdown

I don't think anybody should be surprised at what Bruce Landon said. And while I did defend WSE on their numbers for last year, after what I have seen this year, there isn't a doubt in my mind that they inflated their numbers last year. Now...we'll never know what numbers went to the AHL, the "official" numbers I guess you can say...but I can honestly say, of the 7 games I have attended in Hartford so far, the numbers for this year that are reported to the media, are at least close to what is actually there. Last Friday, for example, I sat with Evo, and I guessed 3,600 for the attendance (it was reported at 3957). Last year, you could look at a crowd for a Friday night game, guess...4,500, and the number reported to the media would be 7,300.

Now, that said… there is absolutely no question that WSE is going to take a big PR hit from this. They have to. Blatant lies about the attendance….the 7,000 comps given out then counting them as “sold” tickets, and then going to the public and reporting them sold, that’s total crap. I absolutely agree that the Baldwins have some explaining to do.

Jeff, I hope you get a chance to read this one.

I think the Baldwins owe the people of Hartford and of Connecticut an explanation as to why he lied about the ticket numbers (comped being included in with the sold before the event).

The first step to moving on from this PR nightmare the people at WSE are going to face (and are facing already) is to just admit. Take out a 1 page ad or something… write an editorial, anything.

Thanks.

Wolfie, what does that have to do with your lie about boycotting the CT Whale?

Because if you saw me behind the HWBC table behind section 107...then you were in the building for CT Whale games, because that's the only time the HWBC table has been there.

And as for this...

"Now...did they sell 21,673 tickets for the game? I think that's absolutely possible. And unless someone gets a look at the balance ssheet from the WhaleBowl, we'll never know whether that number is true or not."

The AHL goes by sold tickets, not turnstile count. EVERY league goes by sold tickets, not by turnstile count.

And yes, it's true that we'll never know how accurate that number is. But, it is the number the AHL has in their record books...and in reality, that's all that counts.

See that number in the upper right hand corner next to Attendance??? It says 21,673.

So, have your sources been sharing facts will you all of these years, or opinions? And have you been sharing their facts with us, or their opinions?

Wow...a bunch of journalists are still trying to be relevant. What's the Press readership 25 people who don't know about the internet?

Wow they're all for it! Great to see the suburbs wanting to see Hockey return to Hartford. The JI wasn't as kind and informed about the publics opinion but some town writers get it.

Many towns are getting screwed in this budget proposel. Middletown isn't one of them. They will be coming out ahead. They should have a less negative tone than most.

Yet to find any expert on why the XL shouldn't be renovated.

Most are completely negligent in the knowledge of what it would cost the taxpayers if the building is not renovated.

Joe Markley is ignorant enough to think that UConn can just play in Storrs and make

The same money for the state. That's not even remotely possible.

What's even **nnier, Evo, is the hissy fit he'll throw once the state had to bond money to build the UConn arena on campus. Yes, even after he would argue against the XL because they could play on campus, he'd then start all over again to try and prevent UConn's arena too. The guy is a cl*****ic example of the village idiot.

Whether the NHL returns or not - and no one is arguing it isn't a pipe dream - it's time to pay the piper in terms of the XL. It was deemed inadequate when we still HAD the Whale, and right**lly so. An arena plan was p*****ed back then knowing something had to be done, Karmanos wanted more $$$ and didn't take the deal - we all know that story. The state in typical fashion has kicked the can down the road these past 20 years. Can't keep doing that with facilities that require maintenance and upkeep by just applying band-aids. The big problem for the people of the state that deserve an upgraded arena is that our illustrious lawmakers have put us so far behind the 8 ball with debt that it's going to be a huge challenge to find a responsible way to get a renovation done. Casino revenue, Income tax, etc., and these clowns have this state in a financial mess. I've said it before - I hope they can get their act together soon enough for me to see it before I move the heck out of this state.

"The people of the state deserve a up grade arena" ??? Pray tell why??? I noticed that the Uconn mens basketball game had a ton of empty seats for the Memphis game. Look, We all pretty much agree NO NHL for Hartford except markie, metoo and one or two others. The only city that has an up to date new arena is Quebec with no NHL. Was that a huge mistake?? Maybe yes maybe know. One thing for sure they have a much better chance than Hartford. Am I narrow minded on this? Could be, but I'd be pissed off if I lived in Ct. Once again if NO NHL Is this mega upgrade for uconn and a circus, tractor pull, monster trucks, another indoor soccer team or maybe a few mega concerts.
