Coyotes Arena Season: Where do they go from here?

May 11, 2017

There’s an all too familiar feeling of unease lurking in the back of the mind for many Coyotes fans this off-season, or as it has come to be known, arena season. The team has extended their lease with Gila River Arena for the 2017-2018 season but after that, there are many questions to be answered.

Are the Coyotes leaving Arizona?

According to statements by the commissioner of the NHL, Gary Bettman, and the majority owner of the Coyotes, Andrew Barroway: not until all other options are explored. Both have publicly stated that they would prefer to keep the team in Arizona, as long as it’s not in Glendale. However, neither said that the team would stay in Arizona no matter what; so if a viable arena deal in the East Valley can’t be found, then relocation isn’t off the table either.

Hasn't Phoenix been on the chopping block though since day two?

This doesn't really feel like new information, just the fact that Bettman has been silent so far

There really out of options and the public doesn't want to finance a new arena

ASU kicked them to curb on new arena

suns said emphatically, no thanks to a new arena in Phoenix.

Where they gonna play?  Sadona? FlagStaff?  Those markets are too small.

What options do they have left?  Can't be much

The Coyotes staying in Arizona is a short-term solution to a long-term problem.  The Coyotes will be out of Arizona within 5 years, and there are very few cities who want an NHL team and who have a venue suitable for an NHL team, and the XL renovations will be done within 5 years, I see Hartford as being the top destination for the Coyotes, and maybe the only destination come the year 2020 or so for the Coyotes to move to.

There is little doubt the Coyotes will be out of Arizona within the next 12-24 months.  Bettman is on record saying Glendale is not a long term option, and there doesn't appear to be any interest in either the city of Phoenix or the state of Arizona (who will soon be asked to *****ist with **nding for a new arena for the Suns, as well as paying for renovations to the home of the Diamondbacks) to replace a facility that's not even 15 years old yet (opened 12/2003)

Coyotes fans seem to think that the team will stay at GRA in Arizona until Seattle is ready, however long that takes.

The Coyotes will go to Seattle or Quebec before we'll ever even attempt to move to Hartford. Businesses and people are moving out of Connecticut, why in the heck would we want to move in? Also, Bettman said that the NHL will never go back to that hole you call a capital.

Barroway, you have the maturity of a pre-schooler. Yes, Connecticut is not the most business-friendly state, but the civic center was visited by NHL officals last month....so I'd say you are wrong...
