Was the Rangers playing preseason games in Hartford part of the initial deal or was that just a rumor?

I don't think that was ever brought up, more just poking the Rangers for not doing that when the Isles do (or something idk)

The Rangers did play preseason games in Hartford in 1997 and 1998.

They drew poorly even then and I doubt they'd draw we'll now.  The powers that be still think Hartford will show up for exhibition games but they don't.

I would go to preseason Isles at Bport but I can't see a lot of people north of Wallingford being interested.

if we get a group together I'm in though

I have seen posts on the Wolf Pack's page about how a bunch of their fans have already bought a tons of ticket for the preseason game.

They did have preseason games in Hartford, but then they signed a deal with New York City that says all of their home games have to be played at MSG. That's why when they had the two outdoor games at Yankee Stadium they were the away team. Even this year they will be playing against the Sabres at Citi Field and they will be the away team again.

Well, those are the facts. Why would they be the away team for games in NYC is that wasn't true? I think it will sell well considering that there's a lot of Islanders fans in that area, and people will go down that are Pack fans. I have a buddy from work that lives in Windsor that bought tickets for his family. I don't know if I'll go, but I might.

We went to the Islanders/Capitals game in Bridgeport last year. It was basically an AHL game with the players wearing NHL uniforms. I didn't know what to expect for an early pre-season game, but I was hoping for a little more than that. Calling it the NHL's return to Connecticut was beyond a stretch.

I will be there this Friday, am now hearing word that the Mayor of New Haven will also be seated with Mayor Ganim at the game, and that officials from MGM might be at the game also, since they want to attract visitors from NYC to the Bridgeport MGM casino in the near **ture.

I can't see what the mayor of New Haven, or the city itself, has to gain by having an NHL exhibition game in Bridgeport.  Or by having a casino built in Bridgeport for that matter...

At least the casino shouldn't be a big drain on taxpayers.

Mohegan and Foxwoods pay the state of CT upwards of 200mil each every year for exclusivity of slot machines.  Unless MGM offers the state a better deal, CT will be losing out on a lot of money.

Makes sense for those 2 teams to play in bridgeport. However i am surprised the Bruins don't play in Hartford or even Springfield. Here in Central and Eastern CT there have been tons of new Bruins fans even the few years before the cup. If they dressed some of the stars but played the fringe players they would draw well in Springfield or Hartford.

I don't think the Bruins can play in Hartford. MSG holds the rights to the area under both of the leagues' rules. I heard that the Bruins had to ask MSG if they could hold that fan event at the old state house. Also, the Bruins would have to pay to play a game in Hartford when they can play in their own arena. Not to many teams go to other arenas like the Islanders. Off the top of my head I can only think of Montreal that regularly plays a preseason at a "neutral site". Some do it for the Kraft Hockeyville promotion, and some will do it for a special event.

Preseason NHL games are played in other venues all the time. Main reason is you may not get 17K to go through boston traffic for bruins preseason but cities that don't usually have a team will show up for one game. The Wings have played in Windsor Ontario. My flyers have played in Allentown of the last few years. St Louis has played a game in Kansas City and i think the penguins and a team not named the blues played in KC as well.

I guess in the MSG/AEG era things may have been hard but with spectra in charge i think they could get a bruins game in Hartford if they looked into it.

THHF is right, the Rangers would have to give the Bruins permission.

"Tons of tickets"?

A ton is 2,000 lbs. If you figure an average weight of 200 lbs per fan, that's 10 people.

That does seem about the right # of fans who comprise the Wolf Pack fan base.

Yeah, it must be **nny to see an AHL team get more people to show up for stuff than a NHL team. How many show up to HWBC events and trips? 10-20 people at most. Yet an AHL team that means nothing can get 30-40 people to go to things on their own. They've even had two separate trips organized to go to two different games on the same day with a combined 50-60 people. Imagine if we could do anything close to that to show how much we care about Hartford Hockey.

Sorry buddy but Hartford whaler events blow whatever your talking about clearly away.. I stress you are not a whalers fan and never were, your a troll.. i def think you are biggie and your posts are starting to show that more now..and I hosted 2 trips here in my place that had clearly more than 60 people, so now your either lying or just stupid..

60 people, now I know you're insane. I saw all the pictures from those trips and there's no way there were more than 30 people there. The numbers are going down and the state isn't paying for the nostalgia anymore. The CRDA is trying to threaten people with shutting down the XL Center, but State Senators and Representatives don't care. They're even talking about taking the XL Center away from the CRDA if they can't handle it and print someone in charge who can. Everyone is calling them liars as well because they said the $35 million upgrade they just finished would keep the building up for years. People are asking if the CRDA was lying about needing the $35 million in the first place, or if they're lying about needing $250 million now.

60 people pal, my place holds 50 and I got extra tables and chairs.. and you should want the crda to succeed because NHL has a shot to come back, but you don't want that
