Boston.com: Hartford Yard Goats unveil Whalers throwback jerseys

121 posts in this topic

Something big is happening in Hartford, Governor visiting XL Center, new forum, East Hartford mayor working on getting casino in East Hartford to support XL Center, now Yard Goats unveiling Whalers jerseys.... and even the Boston media (which hated us back in the 1980s) are even covering it.

The Hartford Yard Goats are looking to win over some local fans with a light dose of nostalgia.

In their first season playing in Hartford, the Colorado Rockies Double-A affiliate (formerly the New Britain Rock Cats) plan to host a Whalers Alumni Weekend at their new downtown stadium. And on Thursday, the team revealed the uniforms they’ll be wearing.

In a Facebook Live announcement, a team representative said the Yard Goats will auction off the jerseys following the July 14-16 weekend, which includes a charity luncheon, a slate of former Whalers players in attendance at the July 15 game, and postgame fireworks.

Nope but the Bees are talking about honoring Gernander in some way, shape, or form.

What connection does Ken Gernander have with New Britain?

None that I know of. Doesn't mean the Bees can't honor the man. The Goats obviously don't want to since they rather honor a dead team.

"The Goats obviously don't want to since they rather honor a dead team"

Or maybe the Goats asked and Gernander said no?

Or maybe the Yard Goats didn't think Gernander wouldn't be a big enough draw. Either way I would love to see them do something for him after being involved with Hartford for so long.

Or maybe the dead team is actually way more popular  and is Hartford's team rather than a New York team that plays in Hartford..

Perhaps, but the Whalers are 100 times more popular than the Rangers farm team. That's pretty **nny, actually.

Why? I guess the Bees got to get Wolfpuke fans to come, since the Yard Goats are honoring the real team.

The ****s cater exclusively to Failer Nation. That being said, what's the problem with the Bees wanting to cater to the rest of the Hartford hockey fanbase?

It's rather amusing how you describe the Failers as "the real team" like they're still alive. Let's look at the multiple definitions of the word "real" according to http://www.dictionary.com/browse/real...

Real:

  1. true; not merely ostensible, nominal, or apparent
  2. existing or occurring as fact; actual rather than imaginary, ideal, or fictitious
  3. being an actual thing; having objective existence; not imaginary

I'll give you some credit by acknowledging that, yes, the Failers were a real team at one time. But that was at one time 20+ years ago.

It's baffling how someone can call themselves a fan of Hartford hockey and yet choose to ignore the past 20 years of it. Reality can be a b*itch sometimes, huh?

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that, yes, the Whalers did exist, and the Pack are just a puppet of a team that nearly everyone in eastern ct hated

And yet you keep coming back.. the whale even has you hooked..

Of course I keep coming back. It's entertaining to see Failers fans, such as yourself, talking about the WP even if it's in a negative tone. The Pack has got you hooked pizza boy hehe

Then why did everyone chant "let's go whalers" and booed the Rangers 9 years later? hm?
