Florida Panthers in attendance at Seattle Arena today

This should make for some interesting conversation. Could they be in any possible talks with current teams about moving, and would they want to wait for however long it takes to renovate the arena? Or would the NHL prefer an expansion team there instead? Expansion in Seattle would be best for Hartford, so hope**lly that would be the case.

The problem is Seattle does not have a temporary facility that is large enough to satisfy the NHL.

If these investors want to put up the $500M, I'm sure the NHL would welcome Seattle as the 32nd team without too much issue at all...with the franchise beginning play when the arena is completed, which means fall of 2020 at the earliest.

That said, the troubled franchises, particularly Carolina, can probably be purchased for half that amount or a little more.

Either way, this finally puts Seattle in the game as far as getting the NHL, but them actually having a team is still several years out.

Would these investors want to purchase an existing team now with the intent of moving them however many years down the road? Who knows how the state of these problem franchises could be then. But Mark is right, it's still several years out. Just gonna have to wait and see.
