Whalers name and logo could be back in NHL very soon

Team sale will usher in a new, and dramatically different, era for the Hurricanes

Thomas Dundon’s imminent takeover of the Carolina Hurricanes – the sale from Peter Karmanos could be finalized as early as the end of this week – will usher in a new era for the team, and without a doubt, a very different one.

For the first time since the franchise moved here in 1997, everything is on the table, from changing the logo and colors to the fan experience to how the building is managed.

And remember that the NHL likes to do nice things for new owners, so while an outdoor game at Carter-Finley Stadium is probably going to remain a pipe dream until the Hurricanes have a higher national profile (or more ex-Blackhawks players), they might actually get to participate in one at some point. It’s too soon to get another All-Star Game, but maybe the draft could return in the next few years. There are already rumors the Hurricanes could play in Finland next season.

It is all starting to make sense now why new restaurants are opening at the XL Center, why the new soccer stadium is coming, why the State is pouring tens of millions of dollars more into the XL Center, the big money and big players behind the scenes know what is going on, 2018 is the year.

Sigh....here we go again.

Frankie, the Hurricanes aren't moving back here as long as PK has some stake in the franchise.

We are only 10 days into this new year, 2018 is starting off with big developments almost every day, new restaurant, new soccer stadium, new soccer team, now the possible Hurricanes name-change, 2018 is the year.

The rebranding of the Hurricanes is happening for a reason, my sources in Hartford are telling me a lot is happening behind the scenes, I am expecting concrete news in June/July about the big developments.

Main question that exists now, will the rebranding back to the Whalers come mid-season before May, or will it happen during the summer months and debut in September for preseason games, granted that this is the final season in Carolina.  Everything is on the table in Carolina, the big money has them moving back to Hartford.
